Abstract

The objective of this community service project was to enhance basic literacy competencies among students of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Halu Oleo University (FIB UHO). The conducted workshop focused on six fundamental literacies: reading and writing, numeracy, science, digital, financial, and cultural as well as citizenship. The methodology encompassed stages of introduction, skill development, and feedback provision. Workshop participants engaged in practical exercises, group discussions, and interactive sessions to understand and apply literacy concepts in everyday life. The outcomes of this initiative revealed an improvement in students' understanding of literacy in a global context, their ability to critically evaluate information, and skills in ethical and responsible digital technology utilization. Participants also became more aware of the importance of cultural diversity and their role as active citizens. Through this workshop, FIB UHO students have been equipped with the skills necessary to contribute positively to a globally connected society.
