Abstract

Legend is one of the oral literary forms that is typically passed down from one generation to another through oral communication. However, the shifting cultural values and patterns of knowledge transmission among the current younger generation have led to the diminishing recognition of local legends. This community service activity is conducted as an effort to preserve local legends among the local community, particularly the younger generation. The preservation effort involves the screening of an animated film narrating the origin of Mount Mekongga in North Kolaka Regency. The target audience for this activity is the sixth-grade students of Negeri 4 Wawo Elementary School in Salurengko Village, Wawo District, North Kolaka Regency. The results of the activity demonstrate that the students exhibit a significant interest in watching the film and understanding the narrative. After the screening, the students are also capable of recounting the legend they witnessed. This indicates that animated film media can serve as an effective tool for learning and transmitting oral literature because it captivates students' attention and provides a new experience in the process of learning literature and culture.
